Home Video: Sublime Animated Architectural Walk-Through

[ Filed under Photography & in the More category ]

Architects are accustomed to reverse-engineering what they see, constructing mental models from a combination of plans, sections, elevations, axonometrics and photographs.

Still, buildings have subtle beauties not revealed in two-dimensional images – hence this moving-picture show illustrating another side of a lovely wooden retreat in rural California by modern minimalist Sebastian Mariscal.

Unlike more traditional films, the cinematography of his architectural videos is generally relatively simple – a series of slow and straight zooms and side-to-side pans, almost as rigorous as a blueprint yet more revealing at the same time.

Clients naturally understand things better, unless they have an architect’s intuition or training, when they are presented in three or four dimensions as well. For more such animated walk-throughs of his architecture (both built and digital), you can visit Sebastian’s video section.
