- American Airlines upgraded DealFinder, a downloadable desktop tool which transmits personalized fare alerts and discounts. DealFinder 2.0 is now compatible with Mac computers and Windows and Linux operating systems. The new version also takes up less computer memory, the airline says.
- Hipmunk debuted flexible calendar search, enabling users to view fares as long as 90 days from desired departure date. The flexible calendar search can be accessed from the top of the homepage by selecting “I’m Flexible.” It works with both one-way and roundtrip fares.
- With a full-content agreement between Sabre and American Airlines set to expire Aug. 31, Sabre’s Chris Kroeger, senior vice president of marketing, emailed customers to assure them that “we remain confident that we’ll reach a new agreement with AA before the current agreement expires. It is important to note that we have been down this road before in travel supplier negotiations, and Sabre has a proven track record of negotiating for the necessary content that you need to run your business.” American Airlines also reportedly is seeking a court injunction barring any disruption in its Sabre GDS participation.
- Expedia says it is improving functionality and the platform for customers using the Travel Agent Affiliate Programme (TAAP). The upgraded service includes improved reporting tools for agents, booking and commission activity monitoring, and personalisation and branding services tools.

I suppose I never was particularly good about updating this thing, but it seems a bit ridiculous that I couldn't be bothered to post once about the many, many things that have gone on since then. - Sabre Travel Network launches merchandising tools with Air New Zealand. Using the Sabre Red system, agents will be able to book a range of ancillary products through the GDS, starting initially with pre-paid bags and eventually extending across the range of product lines on the carrier.
- Sabre’s Lastminute.com gets another new boss, this time Expedia exec Matthew Crummack.
- American Airlines flights to remain on Orbitz into 2012.

Jetstar and Qantas edge closer – Top Australia travel websites, July 30 2011
Jetstar has closed the gap on market leader Qantas to just 2.5%, as well as pulling ahead of third placed Virgin Australia.
The three brands have a massive 61% share of the airline category between them, with AirAsia and Emirates in fourth and fifth place taking just 5% and 3% respectively.

- Gogo, the U.S. in-flight Wi-Fi provider, says 65% of the users of its mobile service are iPhone customers. Meanwhile, owners of Android devices make up 12% of its in-flight users, Blackberry users number 6%, and the remaining 2% of users consist of Windows phones and all other mobile devices.
- Travel metasearch Skyscanner inked a partnership with Aeroflot, the Russian airline, enabling Skyscanner users to retrieve Aeroflot’s fares.
- Hg2, which bills itself as offering “a luxury city guide series for travelers who value both style and substance, says it is making all of its content, including 20,000 images and 12,000 reviews available for free. “Where once only hotel reviews were available as tantalising tasters, the paywall has come down to open up an entire world of travel inspiration,” the company says. Hg2 city guides are available on the Web, as dowloadable PDFs, through iPhone apps and on HP tablets.

Travelport released its first half 2011 results this morning. A quick overview is as follows:
- Net revenue – $ 1,061 million (up from $ 1,056 million y/y).
- Operating income – $ 145 million (down 6% from $ 154 million y/y).
- EBITDA – $ 258 million (up 1% from $ 256 million y/y).
- Adjusted EBITDA – $ 283 million (down 4% from $ 295 million y/y).
Segments:
- Americas – 92.4 million (up 1% from 91.5 million y/y).
- Europe – 45.3 million (up 1% from 44.9 million y/y).
- Asia-Pacific – 29.1 million (up 3% from 28.2 million y/y).
- Middle East and Africa – 19.7 million (down 7% from 21.1 million y/y).
President and CEO Gordon Wilson says:
“I am pleased to report a first half performance in line with management expectations, which was achieved despite the impact of extraneous global events in the earlier part of the year.

EasyJet tears out in front – Top France websites, July 30 2011
Low cost carrier EasyJet has a clear lead in France in the top ten airline websites, securing almost a 4% lead over nearest rival Air France.
Both Air France and Ryanair saw their share of the category drop this week, while Vueling leapt over KLM to secure fourth place.
